This is a multi-grain bread but it's soft and moist, unlike anything else.

Can I use this mix in my 1 pound capacity or 1.5 pound capacity bread machine?

We have designed our mixes specifically for 2 lb. capacity machines. However, you may still find success with 1.5 lb. capacity machines. You may expect to see the top of the loaf touch the lid of the machine towards the end of the baking cycle. This may lead to imperfect baking in that one spot on the loaf. The rest of the loaf should be fine. For 1 lb. bread machines, we recommend only running the bread on the dough cycle and then transfer the dough to a pan for baking in a conventional oven. Why do the directions ask me to use a thermometer?

Yeast is very sensitive to heat and other environmental factors. We have tested and designed our mixes to find the sweet spot for yeast activity to get the best rise. Even just a few degrees off on water temperature can make a big impact on the quality of your bread. Measuring the temperature of your water accurately is the best way to ensure consistently successful bread baking.

I followed the directions exactly and I see had a problem with my bread? What can I do?

Sometimes bread issues happen. We are happy to help. Send us a picture of your bread and a picture of the back packaging of your bread mix to our customer support email at customerservice@preparedpantry.com. Include as much detail as possible about your baking process and bread machine model so we can troubleshoot the cause of the issue.

Should I adjust my mix for high altitudes?

We don't recommend making any changes to the mix for high altitudes. We have tested our mixes in a variety of locations and have fine tuned each mix to be the best product possible.

I don't have a bread machine or a stand-type mixer. Can I still make this bread in my oven?

"This may be the best multi-everything bread in America!"

I took a loaf of Lumberjack bread home with me tonight. It was still warm, so I cut a slice. The butter melted quickly, and I spread some berry jam on it. That's when I  muttered, "Best multi-everything bread in America."

It isn't an everything bread, but it seems like it. It's made with a six-grain mix. the grains are rolled like oatmeal so that in the making, they meld into the loaf. For a lumberjack bread, it's remarkably gentle.

I read the reviews. It's a five-star bread—one four-star out of 59 reviews. Several reviewers used the word "soft."  It is soft--and moist, and light.

Your Questions

  • What does it taste like? Well, it's a whole wheat bread, so it has the nutty taste of whole grains, but it's not all wheat. It's just a really good bread. It's so soft and moist that even the kids like it.
  • How do you like it? That's cheating. I developed it. It's certainly an all-time, top-ten bread for me. I love it!
  • The kids like sweet bread. Anything sweet? It's made with honey, and it has milk, so it has lactose and fructose. It's just sweet enough to be very pleasant.
  • Is it a breakfast bread or a sandwich bread? Well, it makes incredible toast, but I would have to say, a sandwich bread. 
  • What about the users? More of them mentioned sandwiches than toast.
  • No sugar added? No sugar added. The anti-caking agent in the honey has some sucrose in it, but barely.
  • So it's healthy? Lots of whole grains, honey, and dairy.
  • Ah, but does it taste good? Several of the reviewers said it was their best bread. It wouldn't be five-star if it didn't taste good.
  • How tall is it? With the right water temperature, it's six or seven inches tall in your bread machine.
  • What if I don't have a bread machine? It's easy to make in your oven.
  • It says "no preservatives." How long will it last? It doesn't have three weeks of preservatives like in the stores.  We recommend not more than five days on the counter. If you're not going to use it all, slice it and put it in the freezer.  Thaw it in the toaster.

This is an exceptionally moist, multigrain bread made with milk and honey, rolled oats, and other whole grains with a scattering of sunflower seeds. It's a "kitchen sink" bread where everything turned out just right.

Often, whole-grain breads are a bit harsh. Not this one. We toned it down with the oats and added just enough bread flour from Montana. We also added plenty of dairy.

Good milk nearly always makes bread better. It mellows the bread, and the lactose in the milk sweetens it.

Try this bread!  You'll be glad you did.

A Lumberjack's River

This is the St Croix River in Stillwater, Minnesota.  Stillwater is the birthplace of Minnesota, it's oldest city. 

Lumberjacks would harvest timber in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin and float the logs down the St Croix River for processing in Stillwater.

Nice bread

This is my favorite of the light-bread recipies; better than the sourdoughs or the Italian country bread. I haven't tried the French bread mix; they are always out of stock. The Lumberjack is light and fluffy. The main grain taste and texture is oat. Very nice bread
