You'll make an amazing bread with an authentic French bread taste and with a crisp, chewy crust. It's like a trip to the bakery but it will be yours and it's fresh.

This may be a French bread but it's an all-purpose loaf. It may be my favorite grilled sandwich bread. The heat from the griddle makes the bread crisp and slightly crunchy. The sandwiches are amazing.

You can bake it in your bread machine. You can set your machine to the dough cycle and bake it in the oven. Or you can use your stand-type mixer.

How to Make Roasted Garlic Bread

Get a garlic baker to roast garlic like a chef.

Garlic bread should be crisp and buttery–not soggy and not harsh but with a nice, nut-like garlic flavor without being too overpowering. This bread meets those criteria. The roasted garlic gives your garlic bread a pleasant nutty-garlic taste that is much milder than using raw garlic.

  • 8 to 10 cloves of roasted garlic
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 lb loaf French or Italian bread
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Set out a cookie sheet.
  2. Squeeze the roasted garlic from its outer wrappings into a small bowl. Mash with a fork or use a garlic press.
  3. Blend the butter, parsley, parmesan cheese, and garlic together to make a paste.
  4. Slice the bread horizontally and divide the paste in half. Spread each half with the garlic mixture.
  5. Bake on the cookie sheet for 10 to 12 minutes or until crispy.

Baker’s note: If you are using raw garlic, you will want to reduce the amount used. Raw garlic may be up to four times as strong. Roasted garlic is much mellower tasting.

How to Make a Bacon and Egg Grilled Cheese Sandwich

This isn't just good; it is spectacular. You will need eggs to fry and bacon fried to a crisp.

  1. Cut two slices of bread. If you use large slices, you'll need two eggs.
  2. Spread a little mayonnaise on the bread and then cheese to make a sandwich.
  3. Butter the bread on the outside surfaces. Plop the sandwich onto a griddle or frying pan at medium heat. Put a lid over the sandwich to capture the heat and melt the cheese. (The thicker the sandwich, the lower the heat and the longer it needs to cook. It takes a while for the heat to soak through thick sandwiches.) Cook the sandwich, turning as needed until the cheese is thoroughly melted and oozing out the sides.
  4. While the sandwich is cooking, cook the eggs. When done, the whites sholid be set and the yolks still runny.
  5. When the sandwich is cooked, remove from the pan and immediately open the sandwich. Plop the egg(s) on the cheese, add the bacon, and put the lid back on the sandwich.
  6. Place the sandwich on a serving plate. Cut the sandwich in half so that the yolk will run out. Eat the sandwich warm, sopping up the yolk on the plate.

A heavenly miracle is what this bread is and I can't believe I'm the first to write a review. There was a huge/great sale here some months ago and I decided to try this bread among other things. I bought 2 of this mix and SO glad I did! This morning was the first time I decided to try it and holy smoke, it is so delicious that I've almost devoured half of the finished loaf! Hey, shame on me, but if you tasted it, I am positive you'll be slicing and slicing and eating and eating as well. Honestly, it is outstanding. I ran by the site again to reorder this bread because I surely don't want to run out of it and I'm buying a package for my best friend to try, too. The crust is crunchy and chewy, just as it should be; the interior of the bread is light as a feather and not overly dense the way I find Italian bread is. And the flavor? Divine! Directions for use in the oven

  1. Place the mix in your stand-type mixer along with the yeast and melted butter or oil (if any). Add water. Use 110°F water instead of 80°F.
  2. With the dough hook, mix slowly until the dough ball forms. Turn the speed to medium high and mix for five to ten minutes until the gluten forms and the dough becomes stretchy and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a large greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about one hour, depending on room temperature.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Turn the dough onto a lightly greased or floured work area and form your loaf. Place your dough in a 9 x 5-inch pan or other pan and let rise until the size has doubled and bubbles are about to surface.
  5. When the bread has raised, place the loaf on the center rack of the oven. Bake for 35 minutes or until the bread is done. The internal temperature should reach 190°F. Remove the loaf from the pan and let it cool slightly before slicing.

NOTE: If you make this bread in your bread machine, water temperature is critical. Please use a thermometer to measure water at 80°F. If you are baking the bread in the oven, use water that is 110°F.
