Make biscuits and gravy the easy way

Just add water for the biscuits AND the gravy.

When I lived in the South, I came to love biscuits and gravy. Those southern ladies did a fine job with both. I still love biscuits and gravy. But I do it the easy way--just add water. I add water for the biscuits, and I use a country gravy mix. I sauté some burger and then assemble the three. You don't have to use burger; country sausage is the classic. I like tuna gravy and often add diced onion, green peas, and a hard-boiled egg cut into chunks. It's an easy way to have a quick weeknight supper.

How to Make Hamburger Gravy Mix from Scratch

If you don’t have a gravy mix, use this recipe.

  • 1/2 sweet onion, diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pound of ground beef
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk

Directions

  1. Sauté the onion and ground beef together in a skillet. Add the salt and pepper. Remove the cooked ground beef and onion and set it aside. Pour all but two to three tablespoons of the fat from the pan.
  2. Add the flour to the fat and stir to dissolve. Cook for another minute.
  3. Gradually stir in the milk, a little at a time while stirring with a whisk. Continue cooking until the gravy has thickened and is bubbly.
  4. Add the meat and onions and serve over biscuits fresh from the oven.

These Biscuits have an old-time flavor and texture, which I have missed for many years, and they are so easy to make! I will never bother with the store bought canisters again. Wonderful recipe, great job, -Joseph D.

Don't hesitate to try these biscuits........I fancy myself a pretty good baker but could never make biscuits like my mother in law until I found this mix........so easy and so good -Helen F.

I don't know what kind of magic they put into their biscuits but they are fantastic! Light and airy with a bit of crunch to the tops and bottoms. And so ridiculously quick and easy to make. Yum! -Cynthia C.

Great biscuits!

My wife and I love this mix, though she adds a couple of tablespoons of sugar when she prepares it. We have some every weekend and have actually stopped visiting one of our previously favorite breakfast restaurants because these biscuits are so much better.
