Remember Mississippi mud pies—the gooey, decadent chocolate delights made famous in the best restaurants? Picture a rich chocolaty filling in a crumbly, chocolate crust—perfect for family, guests, or that special occasion. We guarantee that your friends will ask for the recipe.

But we should warn you—this is designed for chocolate lovers only. Its rich chocolate taste should be tempered with a scoop of ice cream, whipped cream, or a cold glass of milk. (We prefer a cold glass of milk.)

This may be the easiest, most foolproof pie you will ever make.

This pie is made without hydrogenated fat (shortening.) Each package makes two nine-inch pies. Both crust mixes and filling mixes are included. Ice cream or whipped topping is not included.

Construction notes:

1. Cut butter, an egg, and cold water into the crust mix.
2. Form the pie crust. (We'll show you how.)
3. Stir together eggs, chocolate, and the filling mix until dissolved.
4. Pour into the pie shell and bake for 35 minutes.

Baker's tip: To make pie slices with butter-rich crusts slip more easily from the pan, heat a wet cloth in the microwave. Set the pie pan on the hot cloth and wait a couple minutes before removing the pie slice. The hot cloth will partially melt the butter in the crust so that the slice no longer sticks to the pan.
