A food mill functions as ricer, a strainer, and a masher. It makes sauces and purees.

If you have never used a food mill, you should. To use, you simply turn the handle clockwise. A beveled plate catches the food and presses it through the milling sieve in the bottom.

A food mill is ideal for fruit, vegetable sauces, purees, and baby food.
It automatically separates the skins and seeds from purees.
You can mash or rice potatoes.
It comes apart easily for cleaning.

Editor's notes: While a potato ricer uses downward pressure to force food through a sieve, a food mill uses a beveled plate and a circular motion. The Deluxe Multipurpose Food Mill is a little heavier than the Multipurpose Food Mill and has two screens instead of one. Both will give years of service.
