Tomato and Fresh Basil Pizza Recipe

Fresh Bazil PizzaTomatoes and basil is a classic combination.  Topped with great cheeses, this makes a wonderful pizza.

There are two ways to put tomatoes on a pizza: before it is cooked and after.  This recipe calls for tomato slices placed on the pizza before cooking but you can do it either way.  For the marina sauce, you can make your own or buy spaghetti sauce from the grocery store.
This is a tomato lover’s pizza.  Be sure that you use good, fresh tomatoes.

1 15-inch pizza crust made from a recipe or from a pizza crust mix
1/2 cup marinara sauce
3 medium tomatoes, sliced
salt and pepper
2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.

  1. Make the pizza crust as directed on the package or in the recipe.  Prepare a 15-inch pizza pan by lightly greasing it and sprinkling it with corn meal or semolina flour or use a baking stone dusted with corn meal or semolina flour.
  2. When the pizza dough is ready for the toppings, spread the marina sauce on the pizza dough. Spread half the cheese over the sauce. Sprinkle it with the basil and spread the sliced tomatoes over the pizza.  Salt and pepper the tomatoes to taste.  Spread the rest of the cheeses over the top of the pizza.
  3. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until the crust is brown and the cheeses are bubbly. Serve hot.
